School Based Trainee of the Year Award

Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School received some very exciting news this week regarding Declan Clayton who finished up year 12 with us last year.

Declan received the School Based Trainee of the Year award from AGA Apprenticeships Plus at a Ceremony last Friday night at Marvel Stadium.

Declan participated in AGA’s School Based Apprenticeship and Trainees program, completing a Certificate II in Business and was hosted with Hume City Council in the Building Maintenance department.  Just to get to his placement, Declan needed to show extraordinary commitment in catching public transport from Gisborne, into the city and then back out to Broadmeadows for a 9am start.

As part of his final year of school Declan was working one day at the Hume City Council Broadmeadows office and one day of training at Northcote.

This award is a huge achievement both for Declan and for our school and to be recognised for this award is a magnificent result. This award was open to all apprentices working with AGA and Declan clearly stood out for his maturity and work ethic.

Declan has demonstrated amazing confidence and maturity in dealing with the challenges of this huge undertaking whilst still completing school tasks for his VCAL Certificate. Declan also had the confidence to deliver an unprepared speech to 300 guests when he received his award.

Declan has used this program as a springboard towards his chosen option this year of Certificate III in Film Making at Footscray College and he has excelled so far at his new course.

Fantastic result for Declan and validation for the hard work of our students at Sunbury and Macedon Ranges.

Congratulations to all!
